Thank you Apple Photos app for organising the persons in my photo album. This feature makes it really handy to find a person or a memory in my ever-growing pile of photographs. All of the old negatives that my mother once scanned, are now instantly enhanced with additional context and it gives new possibilities to browse through my memories. It reminds me of an automatic personalised version of "Storyverse", only focussed on photos in stead of books.
In all honesty, this feature still needs some work... Sure, I get it if a face resembles that of someone else, but when I define it to be a different person; please don't override with your logic. The algoritmics are telling the Artificial Intelligence that my friend Harmen might be the same person than my colleague Ewout, but please trust me when I correct this suggestion, because these persons are not the same person. The current situation is that I keep adjusting the tags that the Photos app assigns to these two persons, ignoring my manual override... The technique that allows this "intelligence" is beyond my comprehension, but I feel that the human should always be able to override the system so it can learn from the mix-up. This is an example of "Foolish intelligence" where the system pretends to know what is right and what is wrong. I'll find a workaround and be the intelligent one...Previous articleInformed consent
